“The Wind Came Home” – BOTH SIDES, NOW (18 Oct – 5 Nov 17)

Presented by Lien Foundation, Ang Chin Moh Foundation, Drama Box and ArtsWok Collaborative, BOTH SIDES, NOW, is a community engagement project about what it means to live well, and leave well, and an ongoing project by the co-presenters since 2013. This current 3-year iteration also has Ministry of Health and Tote Board Community Healthcare Fund as partners and funders. In Telok Blangah, their community collaborator is Montfort Care.

Dying is a natural part of life, but many of us are afraid to talk about it. How can we get closer to this topic, regardless of our age? How should we plan for this chapter of our journey with our loved ones? Over these two years, we hope to engage the residents in Telok Blangah through arts workshops, activities and performances. Our goal is to help create communities where individuals and families are supported in making informed decisions about end-of-life issues.

THE WIND CAME HOME Puppetry Performance and Activities
Come October, we are kicking off Both Sides, Now 2017 with free puppetry performances and activities in Chong Pang and Telok Blangah. The Wind Came Home is a heartwarming story about an elderly couple and a cat, performed live by a skilful puppeteer. It has been very well-received, engaging audiences since it was first performed in 2014. While it was originally written and performed in Mandarin, we are also staging performances in English, Malay and Tamil this time to reach out to a larger audience.

Each performance will be accompanied by other activities on site such as participatory art activities, screening of short animations and community singing. Following the performance every night are small-group conversations over dessert led by volunteer-facilitators, to open up the space for us to talk about a difficult but important topic – our end-of-life choices.
